Description

This TACFI Phase II effort will expand the utility and capabilities of ARSim beyond aviation radio communication and radio procedures into a more comprehensive simulator to train in procedures, flows, and mission tasks using voice- and touch-base user interaction. The simulator and training platform will employ audio and visual feedback to correct mistakes and instill positive habits and will deploy a training curriculum that implements gaming mechanics to increase user engagement and performance. This will enable aircrews to more effectively learn, practice, and master checklists, flows, and mission tasks outside of the cockpit and it will equip the USAF with a means to improve current training, increase training effectiveness, and reduce training costs.

Score Rationale

TACFI is a legitimate fast-track instrument earning a high pathway score, but the core work is a training simulator with gamification and voice/touch UX — closer to edtech/simulation engineering than genuine AI-native development, dragging the AI/ML fit score down to a 2. The $1.14M ceiling with a TACFI Phase II label implies some transition lineage but no explicit production pathway is named, and the award size sits just above the sub-$1M floor without meaningful scale. Problem framing is reasonable in scope (specific airframes, defined training tasks) but lacks concrete success metrics or data availability details.
