Description

Note - This submission is a pre-approved 2021 TACFI award from AFWERX in collaboration with 2ASOS and 711HPW extending the work from our 191-005 Phase II Contract FA86491999004. We were advised to re-submit our TACFI proposal under a D2P2 for final processing and approval through DSIP. ____________ Musculoskeletal injury (MSI) is the number one threat to an airman's tactical readiness and lethality. Each year, MSI affects 800,000 military service members leading to 2.2 million medical visits, 25 million lost duty days, and approximately $5 billion in healthcare costs. MSI is the primary reason for medical discharge from the military, accounting for 34% of the Air Force's medical discharges. MSI can cause airmen to be pulled from assignments and leads to lapses in training qualifications. Furthermore, MSI decreases mission readiness by reducing the number of airmen able to deploy at any given time. IncludeHealth’s musculoskeletal operating system (MSK-OS™) has been developed to autonomously deliver mission-specific health & performance protocols with objective data collection and real-time corrective feedback on any device with a front-facing camera and web browser. A preliminary version of this technology was first tested by the 711 HPW in DEC 2020 as the final technology deliverable in our Phase II initiative.  Through this TACFI effort, we will focus on expanding this technology across four key sectors: Metric-Based Training: Expanding the system to program and measure performance-based metrics (power, velocity, work, etc) Movement Expansion: Growing the movement library for specific USAF needs Advanced Programming: Develop extended plans to auto-advance the warfighter’s training protocols based on performance outcomes Remote Expansion: Deliver these expanded capabilities both onsite and remote through warfighters' own devices (including phones, tablets and computers)

Score Rationale

This is a genuine AFWERX TACFI award — a modern fast-track instrument — but the administrative complexity of re-submission through D2P2/DSIP and the unknown response deadline introduce friction that knocks it below a 5 on pathway speed. The problem framing is concrete and well-evidenced (MSI burden, clear end-user in 711HPW, prior Phase II baseline), and the AI/ML fit is real — computer vision-based movement analysis and adaptive protocol generation are genuinely AI-shaped problems — though much of the work at this stage is expansion and integration rather than novel model development. At $1.5M with a clear prior contract lineage and named operational partners, the transition pathway is implied but not formally articulated.
