Description
This TACFI program will build on the successes of Rescan’s SBIR Phase II with the Patrick Space Force Base Fire Department, refining and expanding the functionality of the system, and preparing the technology for enterprise-scale adoption across the DAF. There are a number of enhancements and new capabilities planned for this TACFI, but the main applied R&D Rescan will pursue to help scale across the DAF, and eventually the DoD, is integration with TAK (Tactical Assault Kit). This integration will also open commercial markets for applications with the civilian version of TAK (Team Awareness Kit) with the first responder community nationwide.
Score Rationale
TACFI is a genuine fast-track OT instrument under AFWERX, earning a strong pathway score, but the unknown response deadline prevents a top mark on timeline realism. Problem framing is reasonable — it builds on a Phase II with an identified end-user (Patrick SFB Fire Department) and a concrete integration target (TAK) — but success criteria and data availability are not explicitly stated in the description, leaving meaningful scope ambiguity. At ~$1.25M, the award sits just above the $1M threshold and the DAF/DoD enterprise transition narrative is present but vague, landing it squarely in the middle tier for award size and transition.
