Description

Outpost Technologies Corporation (Outpost) will design, develop, and test a scalable heat shield, payload bus, and robotic atmospheric recovery system to create the Joint Precision Orbital Carryall (J-POC) space vehicle for STRATFI proposal number: F2-18410. This vehicle will be capable of Earth reentry from high orbits, meeting the need for low-cost, reusable hypersonic testing solutions that advance the U.S. Department of Defense’s hypersonic testing capabilities. By achieving precision landing capabilities, the J-POC will facilitate secure and efficient delivery of mission-critical payloads for end-users across multiple commands, including AFRL RVBN, SPACE FORCE INDOPACOM, AFGSC, USSTRATCOM, NASA and U.S. Army Futures Command.

Score Rationale

AFWERX STRATFI is a top-tier modern fast-track instrument and the $17.9M ceiling with named end-users across multiple commands scores maximum on pathway and award transition. However, the core problem is aerospace engineering — hypersonic reentry vehicles, heat shields, and robotic recovery systems — not an AI-shaped problem; any AI/ML component (e.g., autonomous landing guidance) is deeply subordinate to hardware development and is never mentioned. Timeline realism is middling given the unknown response deadline and the complexity of a space vehicle prototype.
