Description

The scope of this effort will span multiple years and will advance the development, testing, product maturity and deployment of the Skyways V3 UAS. The end goal of this effort is to arrive at a validated and verified design of the V3 Block 2+ aircraft, which is ready for low-rate production and immediate deployment in theater. Skyways will apply an iterative development approach, leveraging lessons learned from the Block 1 prototype to design and test the V3 Block 2 UAS. Following the completion of Block 2, the design will be refined into the Block 2+ configuration, ready for operational deployment. Throughout this process, Skyways will implement enhancements to the system’s autonomy engine and machine learning capabilities to support real-world deployment in diverse environments. These initiatives will run concurrently with hardware development to deliver a robust, cutting-edge UAS platform capable of meeting mission requirements in theater.

Score Rationale

AFWERX STRATFI is a top-tier modern fast-track instrument, earning a 5 on pathway speed, and the multi-year scope with iterative block development respects realistic hardware/software dev cycles. The problem framing and AI/ML fit are middling — autonomy engine and ML enhancements are real but secondary to what is fundamentally a hardware maturation and LRIP readiness program for a specific VTOL airframe, meaning AI is a meaningful component rather than the core problem. The $3.55M ceiling with an explicit LRIP and theater deployment transition pathway is a strong signal but falls short of the $5M+ threshold for a top score.
